Unveiling the 1st Wikiadvocacy Meeting results: why, who and how to advocate for an open content world
08-09, 15:30–15:55 (Poland), Tbilisi (7)
Language: English

The current changes in the informational system are prompting Wikimedians to ponder the true value Wikimedia offers to the world. It is imperative to deliberate on what priorities should be set and advocated for, and the strategies employed in doing so. This session aims to disseminate the primary outcomes of the 1st Wikiadvocacy meeting, scheduled for May 2024 and hosted by Wikimedia Chile, with a focus on capacity building and network strengthening as its primary objectives.

This session aims to provide an overview of the expected outcomes of the first Wikiadvocacy meeting in May, starting by identifying community interests and needs, leading to the development of common strategies, and fostering the first efforts to create an Advocacy & Public Policy network throughout the movement.

Attendees are expected to:
- Familiarize themselves with the advocacy and public policy work carried out by the movement and the WMF.
- Understand the general strategies being jointly developed by the movement to manage these efforts.
- Identify the existence of a collaborative network on this topic and explore ways to integrate and strengthen local capacities through participation.
