Assessment of common interests of affiliates and communities through formal and informal associations using hubs as a platform for regional and interregional interaction
This round table aims to analyze the benefits and difficulties of implementing hubs in a regional context, approach and scope. It is also intended to establish a basis for the feasibility of creating other regional hubs to those already existing, based on current resources, circumstances and will, considering the voice of actors (speakers) with experience in hubs within the Wikimedia movement. Taking into account the previous conversations between the participants. Given time constraints, the session is organized as follows:
- Importance of hubs in regional communities.
- Challenges faced by hubs in regional environments.
- Future perspectives of regional communities in relation to hubs.

Hubs have been created with the purpose of bringing together regional actors and collaborating in a coordinated manner with the global activities of the movement. This approach aligns with the theme of this year's Wikimania, which seeks to promote the openness of knowledge through collaboration without limitations, in a flexible structure adaptable to each reality in which it operates. The thematic differences between existing hubs and ongoing or inactive proposals (regional, linguistic, etc) allow us to better understand this flexibility put into practice. Working in the open within a regional context has its advantages and disadvantages that need to be discussed or exposed to different perspectives in a global dialogue.

Butch Bustria is an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and a dedicated Wikimedian based in Singapore. His journey with Wikipedia began in December 2005 and has since been an active contributor to Wikimedia projects, utilizing his spare time to enhance and share knowledge on the platform.
In addition to his on-wiki contributions, Butch has been involved in the Wikimedia movement’s leadership and organizing space. He has played a significant role in events such as Wikimania 2023, where he served as the Event Lead and Program Subcommittee Chair. His commitment to the Wikimedia community is evident through his efforts in fostering collaboration and knowledge dissemination.
