"translate", T:42, "tvar"? How to create and maintain translatable pages on Meta
07.08, 15:30–16:55 (Poland), Ohrid (9)(interpretation)
Language: English

Have you tried to edit a page on Meta before and found yourself faced with incomprehensible jargon based on "translate" and "tvar"? Don't panic, this workshop will help you understand how it works!

Meta is the international wiki dedicated to Wikimedia projects, where volunteers, user groups and associations present their projects and document their actions.

The wiki is multilingual and offers a translation system based on volunteer contributions. This system is based on a rather complex markup inserted directly into the wiki code. In order to create or maintain multilingual pages, it is necessary to understand how this system works.

During this workshop, we will first explore how the Translate Extension works by putting ourselves in the shoes of a volunteer translator. Then we will see how a translatable page is structured. We will learn the basic rules for using markup and how to add or edit content without breaking everything.

Finally, we will discuss best practices proposed by the community and where to find additional documentation.
