The Wikimedia Foundation has revamped the Community Wishlist Survey to better meet the needs of Movement participants around technical collaboration in the open. In this session, we’ll briefly unpack what’s changed in the Wishlist and why, and spend the majority of our time in a live workshop to define new opportunity areas.

The Community Wishlist Survey has engaged Movement participants to collaborate and raise awareness about tools and platform improvements since 2015. And, in 2023, participants raised concerns about the Wikimedia Foundation’s ability to respond to its stated commitments about Wishes.

Based on feedback from all corners of the Movement, the Wikimedia Foundation has revamped aspects of the Community Wishlist Survey, and will continue to make improvements in 2024-25. Starting in July, we will have introduced a new Wish intake process to make it easier for participants to submit a Wish. And, we’re introducing new ways for participants to discuss Wishes, identify the biggest opportunities, and collaborate in the open. In this session, we’ll go through a participatory exercise where we examine newly-created Wishes and discuss opportunities for the Foundation, its affiliates, Community Tech team, and volunteer developers to prioritize and deliver Wishes to make a greater impact in 2024-25 and the future.
