The Wikimedia Summit 2024 was the last of its kind. In the spirit of the Movement Strategy 2030, Wikimedia Deutschland is handing over the responsibility of organising future affiliate gatherings to other movement stakeholders, to design these events in a
more equitable way, with a purpose based on the needs and interests of the affiliates. In this session we invite stakeholders who expressed interest in taking over the responsibility of conceptualising and possibly organising these future events to consult with their peers and discuss the next steps.
The content of this session will be defined by the outcome of the Wikimedia Summit 2024, where the future of affiliate gatherings will be extensively discussed by the participants. With this submission, the Summit organisers would like to make sure that the affiliate(s) who expressed interest in taking over this responsibility to create a concept for the future of affiliate gatherings have the opportunity to consult with their peers and discuss the logical next steps at Wikimania.

Wikimedia events play a critical role in enabling collaboration within the Wikimedia movement. Discussing and shaping the future of affiliate gatherings will ensure that spaces for collaboration within affiliates continue beyond the Wikimedia Summit.
