Add your country to the Wikidata Govdirectory
Language: English

This poster will be a step-by-step guide for adding a country to WikiProject Govdirectory. It will cover what kind of general information and sources would be beneficial to document. It will also help people get started on the kind of queries useful to review if the data in Wikidata is complete and correct.

WikiProject Govdirectory is an effort to document and model all public organizations of the world, on all levels, on Wikidata. It is a huge project in the sense that the number of organizations is high, and it is a difficult project since figuring out how the public organizations in a country relate to each other usually requires specific local knowledge. These challenges make it a perfect fit for a WikiProject!

With this poster, we will show how you get started with a country in the WikiProject Govdirectory - a project to gather all public organizations in the world - of all levels - on Wikidata. It will look at some of the existing ones to show what are some good practices in dividing the task into smaller, manageable chunks. There are already several different SPARQL-queries that can be used as an inspiration to see what coverage Wikidata has and how to determine when something is “done”. Finally, it will show a few different tools for tracking changes and coverage, which helps users stay on top of the progress and ensure that the quality stays high.
